In the summer of 2020, after a break of about twelve years, I started painting on canvas again. The pandemic had just started a few weeks earlier. Because I had less assignments for a while, I decided to go back to my old love. It fueled all the feelings and painting landscapes was what I had to do, I felt that in everything. The theme of these landscapes is ‘Fernweh’, the German word for ‘longing for a place that is not your home’.
For many years I can be found a lot in England or Scotland. I feel very much at home there. I regularly think about living there permanently, but for now I divide my time between the Netherlands and Great Britain.
In my paintings I try to capture the feeling of home, however far away that may be.
